Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2013

Overall Winner

The 2013 Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year was awarded to Alexandrina Paduretu of Romania on Tuesday 23rd April 2013 at our extraordinary winners’ reception.

Alexandrina is an amateur photographer and when asked how it felt to be a shortlisted finalist for the Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year 2013 she said, “It is a great honour for me to be chosen amongst the finalists of this competition. When I got the news I realised that when you really want something you can always fulfill your dream. Therefore, each of us, regardless of nationality, age or gender should take a gamble when the time arises.”

Alexandrina said that she considered the contest a challenge to her imagination, especially as food has always been an inspiration for her photos. The temptation to participate was doubled, she said, as in Romania apples are highly appreciated, and can be found everywhere (from markets to backyards). Talking about what first interested her in food photography she said, “The first time I was fascinated by how food turns into art. I find it great to combine textures and colours that will manage to awaken your senses.”

We asked Alexandrina to tell us a little about where she lives and how it influences her photography. Here is what she told us, “I live in Craiova, a city in the southern part of Romania, a beautiful place where I spend my spare time on my passion for photography.  It is an area surrounded by hills, with many old buildings, churches and noble palaces, also sheltering one of the largest and most beautiful parks in Europe. I think beauty is within everyone’s reach because it always exists in the soul of the beholder. Therefore, anything can become a source of inspiration for my photographs as long as I’m willing to bring in my life everything that is beautiful.”

Interestingly she said that the photographer that has most influenced her work is Steve McCurry telling us “because he captures the essence of things, especially human nature, without altering its reality.”
