In a series of short interviews, we took some time to catch up with previous winners and Highly Commended photographers of Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year, where they shared what they love about the competition.

“I entered Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year on a whim three years ago. Suffering terribly from imposter's syndrome, I didn't for a moment think that my image would even be noticed, well, it was noticed and totally changed my life. In 2019, I was awarded 'Highly Commended' in the 'Cream of Crop' category. It was always a personal goal (and incredible honour) to make it into the Finals of this much-contested category, as every year the selected shortlist and final images are breath-taking.

Since entering Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year, I have gone on to create a successful career in food photography working on cook books, helping brands create a uniform and unique marketing style, running workshops both privately and with Nikon School of Photography in London, and being invited to speak at The Photography Show in Birmingham.”

“It was great winning the On the Phone category. I got a lot of recognition from press and peers alike. My son, who is in the photo, was also very happy. I had not taken Phone photography seriously before I saw this category, however I now do put more thought into phone photos.
