Life-Changing Inspiration

Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year reflects an abundance of genres of food photography across an array of different categories, all of which are open to both professional and amateur photographers.

Each year, we are so honoured to learn about the relationships and experiences of all of our entrants, each of them on their own journey with photography through the competition.

In a series of short interviews, we caught up with previous finalist photographers of Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year from 2021. From across the globe, our finalists shared with us their journey with the competition. We then asked why they would recommend entering, and we are delighted to share with you their advice for this year’s Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year.

Robin, what made you enter Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year?

‘As a food photographer, this competition is by far the pinnacle of the food photography year, and it absolutely sets the standard of what is the best an innovative work in food photography around the world.  It is an important way for me to push myself to see if I can create the best images possible, and to reach the latter stages is always a truly humbling experience. After all the ways it has benefitted me as a photographer, I can't imagine not entering!’

What would you say to someone thinking of entering the competition?

‘Enter, you have nothing to lose!  Even if your images don't quite hit the mark, the feedback you can receive is invaluable, allowing you to develop further to the point where your image can be hugely successful. If you have an interest in food photography, then being part of the competition is an absolute must, and even getting shortlisted is a massive achievement, and only spurs you on to try harder.’

Why do you enter Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year?

‘I have enjoyed entering photographs for the last few years as it is a great way to share my different food cultural experiences across the world and get inspired by the work of others.’

What advice would you give to someone entering this year?

'Just go for it! It is surprising what the outcomes can be!’

Dorte Verner, Denmark

What made you enter Pink Lady® Food Photographer of the Year?

‘To give visibility to both food insecurity and resilience. Because food connect us all across the globe, both in time of Covid-19 and otherwise. Food is art, nature, and love as it brings together friends and families (even if it is on a zoom call). Food and agriculture are also the most important economic sector as it employs the most people in the world.!’

What would you say to someone looking to enter the competition?

‘Share your beautiful work with the world! You cannot provide exposure to what you photograph and that you care about if your images are sitting on your hard drive.’
